explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house
say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together that evening
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Parth
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that sadly I will not be available to pick you up from station on Saturday morning .Unfortunately I'll come home in the evening but I have already made all arrangements for your pickup.
I am very happy that you are coming here to stay with me . One of my friend Amit will receive you from station and I have already book a taxi in advance for that day.
After reaching home you just have to get the keys from my neighbor MR Ahuja . Then the house is all yours , just get fresh and eat the breakfast that I will prepare , your favourite dish Dosa with Sambar and chutney . I know you will feel very happy after this and sad at that the same because I am not going to home at that time.
Excitingly ,I'll be home by 5 pm and be ready for evening plans .I have booked a table for us in 5 star restaurant for dinner which I am going to experience for the first time in my life .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the key arrangements involving your neighbor, provided instructions regarding the pickup, and outlined your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member. However, the development of ideas is slightly uneven; for instance, the instructions on how to get from the station to the house are missing, as you mentioned a friend would pick them up but did not explain the route or the logistics of that meeting point. To reach a higher band, ensure all parts of the prompt are developed with equal detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'After reaching home' and 'Then', to sequence events. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. Some transitions feel abrupt, such as the jump from the breakfast description to the evening plans. Additionally, the use of referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between the friend picking them up and the taxi booking is slightly confusing. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using words like 'arrangements', 'favourite', and 'experience'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'sad at that the same' which is non-idiomatic, and 'receive you from station' where 'pick you up' or 'meet you at' would be more natural. You also have some minor punctuation and spacing errors, such as the space before the period in 'morning .' and 'plans .'. While these do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Expanding your range of collocations would be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I have already book a taxi' (should be 'booked') and 'I am not going to home' (should be 'going home'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas after introductory phrases and unnecessary spaces before punctuation marks. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent punctuation usage.
