Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Tasha,
I am writing to inform you that I have work 9am to 5pm tomorrow so I am unable to receive you from railway station in the morning.
Firstly. I would like to explain that I arranged everything for you. I booked taxi and send you a booking detail at what sup. So, he will arrive at time in the morning. I gave my house key to my neighbor; she will be there for your help and home welcome. I share your phone number with her and you if you face any trouble just call her.
I prepare food for you in the morning before going to the office. i will make your Favorite rajma-rice and desert. When you come at my home then my friend will serve you and you have to get some rest after eating then i will be at home in the evening.
In the evening, i planned a movie night, candlelight dinner together, some gossip and spend quality time with you then we will go for shopping.
Hope you will understand my plan and i look forward to hearing from you soon.
I am very excited to meet with you after so long time.
Your sincerely,
Anjali Sharma

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly explained the key arrangements, provided instructions regarding the taxi, and suggested evening activities. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the instructions on how to get from the station to the house are missing; you only mention booking a taxi, but you do not provide the address or specific directions. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the prompt are fully developed with sufficient detail.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'In the evening' to transition between points. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and some mechanical use of transitions. For example, the sentence 'I share your phone number with her and you if you face any trouble just call her' is a bit disjointed. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'inform', 'arrangements', and 'quality time'. However, there are several instances of unnatural word choice and minor errors, such as 'at what sup' (WhatsApp), 'home welcome', and 'desert' (dessert). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring correct spelling for common terms. Expanding your vocabulary to include more descriptive adjectives and verbs would also be beneficial.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include missing articles ('from railway station'), incorrect verb tenses ('I prepare food' instead of 'I will prepare'), and punctuation errors (e.g., 'Firstly. I would...'). Additionally, there are capitalization inconsistencies, such as 'i' instead of 'I'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization will help improve your score.
