Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Tanveer,

I wanted to let to know about our meet up on this Friday, i am so excited to meet you after so long. I made so many plans of our this meet up but i am disappointed to let to know that i will not to at home in the morning as i have my exam on Thursday and due to ride issues i will be able to come home at Friday night.

As you will arrive by the train in the morning, so i will book ride for you with which you will be able to come to my house from the station and i will handover keys to my friend who lives next to my house and she will give you the keys so that you can go and fresh and have some rest in my room. I will order breakfast for you and i will be at home by dinner time. we will both go to the nearby restaurant to eat your favorite food and after that spend some time in nearby park and play cards.

I am sorry that i will not to at home when you will arrive but i will promise that we will have a great fun together after i will come to home.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining the key arrangements, providing directions from the station, and suggesting evening activities. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the directions from the station are vague; you mention booking a ride but do not explain how the relative will identify the driver or where to meet them. To improve, ensure that your instructions are practical and easy to follow. Despite these minor gaps in detail, the purpose of the letter is clear and the requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As you will arrive' and 'after that', to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by repetitive sentence structures and some awkward phrasing, such as 'I made so many plans of our this meet up'. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the transition between the logistical details and the social plans could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words would help the text feel more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for this task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'handover', 'breakfast', and 'restaurant'. However, there are several instances of unnatural word choice and collocation errors, such as 'ride issues' instead of 'transportation problems', and 'go and fresh' instead of 'freshen up'. You also repeat the phrase 'I will' frequently, which limits the lexical variety. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise verbs and idiomatic expressions suitable for an informal letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an ability to use complex sentences, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'I will not to at home' instead of 'I will not be at home'), missing articles, and punctuation errors, such as the misuse of commas and capitalization of 'i'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
