Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Emma,
I hope you are doing well. It was great to hear from you that you decided to come over at my place for Thanksgiving. I will be an honor for me to seeing you after six months and I am so excited for the festival as well. As we talked last time, you mentioned that you will be arriving in morning and I would to love to pick you up from station, however; I have to go to my job and due to festive season, I cannot ask for day off.
Although I was not at home while you are arriving, I have arranged the door keys and building access for you. In addition, you have the address of my home in which we have lot of memories with our grandparents, and you can find the cab at station exit which will drive you straight from station to my home.
Moreover, after you reached at home building, you can find the keys under the mat of front door, and I know you like to have toasts and coffee in the morning, thus, the bread with butter is on the table having coffee maker beside it. Hope you will have the breakfast, and we will plan some outing after I come home. Lastly, I also booked the cinema ticket for evening show and later will have dinner at your favorite restaurant.
I hope you will enjoy and excited same as me for the evening plan. See you soon.
Warm regards,
Tim

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the key arrangements, provided directions from the station, and detailed your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed, and you have provided sufficient detail to satisfy the requirements of the task. No parts of the prompt were omitted, and the information provided is relevant and helpful for the recipient.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'after you reached at home building', which is slightly awkward. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics, making the letter easy to follow and coherent throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'festive season', 'arrangements', and 'outings'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'at my place' (should be 'at my home' or 'to my place') and 'after you reached at home building' (should be 'arrive at the building'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, these occasional inaccuracies prevent a higher score. Nevertheless, the meaning is always clear, and the vocabulary is sufficient for the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'It was an honor for me to seeing you' (should be 'to see you'), 'Although I was not at home while you are arriving' (should be 'will not be at home when you arrive'), and 'Hope you will have the breakfast' (should be 'I hope you enjoy breakfast'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some comma usage is inconsistent.
