Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Harman,
I hope you are doing well. I am really excited to meet you after so long. since you will be arriving in the morning. while I will be at my work. however, I have made the arrangement for you to get into my apartment.
I have left a spare-key under the main door mat. It will be in golden color. Once you find the key you can insert it into the door lock and twist it into left side to get access to my apartment. Apart from that, I have made a breakfast for you which you will really like as it is your favorite dish. Also, I have left an extra towel in the bathroom if you want to take a shower.
Do not forget to text me once you reached at station. I will book an uber ride for you so that you can go to my house without any hurdles. Many taxi drivers will insist you to book ride with them but they will charge you a lot. And I literally do not want you to get stuck in traffic with them. So, keep updating me.
I will be home at sharp 5:30PM. Get ready by that time I will take you to the famous mall in town centre of city and then later tonight we will go for a movie after dinner.
I am excited to see you soon.
Best wishes
Lovejeet Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the key arrangements, provided directions from the station, and specified your arrival time along with a plan for the evening. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, and the ideas are relevant and well-developed. To reach a higher band, ensure that all parts of the task are integrated more smoothly; for instance, the transition between the key arrangements and the breakfast mention feels slightly abrupt. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the visit. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Apart from that' and 'Also', to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some sentences are fragmented, such as the opening paragraph where sentences are broken up incorrectly (e.g., 'since you will be arriving in the morning. while I will be at my work. however...'). Improving the use of punctuation and subordinating conjunctions would help create a more natural, fluid progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'apartment', 'hurdles', and 'town centre'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'made a breakfast' (should be 'prepared breakfast') and 'at sharp 5:30PM' (should be 'at 5:30 PM sharp'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band. Incorporating more natural collocations would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation and sentence boundaries, particularly in the first paragraph where sentences are incorrectly punctuated as fragments. Other errors include 'once you reached at station' (should be 'once you reach the station') and 'twist it into left side' (should be 'to the left'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
