Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: arrangements for keys/entry, directions from the station, and plans for the evening. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding the keys is vague; you mention a friend will pick up the relative but do not explicitly state how the relative will gain access to the house (e.g., whether the friend has a spare key). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, and the purpose is clear throughout. To improve, ensure that all instructions are specific and fully explained to avoid any ambiguity for the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the arrival arrangements to the evening plans. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences is often abrupt, and there is a lack of varied linking words to connect ideas smoothly. Paragraphing is also insufficient; the entire body of the letter is presented as one block of text, which makes it harder to follow. Using clear paragraph breaks for each distinct topic would significantly improve the structure and readability of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'latter' instead of 'letter', 'comfertably' instead of 'comfortably', and 'spaciel' instead of 'special'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the errors occasionally distract the reader. To achieve a higher band, you should focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling of common words. Expanding your range of collocations would also help convey your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'I am writing this latter for you that I am not able to come pickup to you' (incorrect preposition/phrasing), 'he will be drop you' (incorrect verb form), and 'I have plain to go' (incorrect word form). These errors are persistent and sometimes impede the flow of communication. While you attempt to use some complex ideas, the lack of control over basic grammar and punctuation limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tenses is essential for improvement.
