explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house
say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together that evening
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Priya,
I hope you have made all of your arrangements for your trip. I wanted to let you know that, I need to go to my work on your arrival day therefore, I would not be at home in morning.
However, I have spoke to my friend Nikhil and he will be there to take you from train station and to drop off at my house. Nevertheless, he will have the keys to get into house. He is my best friend and very polite and friendly person.
I will be home around 8PM. I am very excited to let you know that we are not only going to watch your favorite TV show but also cook your prefered Italian cuisine that evening.
We are going to see each other after long time. Subsequently, I can not wait to spent some precious time with you.
Take care,
Neel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining the key arrangements, providing directions, and suggesting evening activities. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum requirement, which impacts the overall task completion. While the ideas are relevant and clear, they could be expanded slightly to ensure a more comprehensive response. For instance, providing a bit more detail on the directions from the station or elaborating on the evening plans would have easily met the length requirement and strengthened the development of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Nevertheless', and 'Subsequently' to link your ideas. However, the use of 'Nevertheless' is slightly unnatural in this context, as it usually introduces a contrasting point rather than a continuation of a plan. The flow between sentences is generally smooth, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal or semi-formal letter, making the message easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'precious time' and 'Italian cuisine'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I have spoke' (should be 'I have spoken') and 'prefered' (spelling error). Additionally, 'take you from train station' is slightly unnatural; 'pick you up from the train station' would be more idiomatic. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'I need to go to my work' (should be 'go to work'), 'at home in morning' (missing 'the'), and 'can not wait to spent' (should be 'wait to spend'). The tense usage is generally consistent, but the errors in verb forms and articles are noticeable. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
