IELTS Writing Task 1 question

A family member is coming to stay with you. He/she will be arriving by train in the morning, but you won’t be home until the evening.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

Dear Aunt,

I hope you are doing well. It was such a joyful news to hear about you coming to meet me by train in the morning, but I am bit disappointed to mention that I would not be home until the evening. Having said that, I have made all the arrangements for you to welcome into my home.

Let me explain the situation in more detail. I got an urgent meeting tomorrow which will eat up into my whole day. Despite not being present physically, I have talked to my friend Riya whom you know very well, and she will pick you from the train station and give you the house key. Mind you, I will make you favourite food for tomorrow and keep in the refrigerator.

On top of that, I will be home by 6 pm, and then we will have a cup of tea together and plan for going out for the next day. If you need anything else, make a call or let Riya know.

Hope to see you tomorrow.
