Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear sami,

I hope you doing well !

I know that you gonna come tomorrow morning and I am very happy about that .

But I have to go early to the next city , there is a problem in my work so have to go and fix this issue before the manager know .

I will keep the keys behinde the dor , get into the house and you can watch some tv .

My house is not far from the train station , when you arrive just turn right and walk 500 metters and ask people for adem house , it is easy to find .

I will arrive at 7 pm but before i went back home i am gonna go to the supermaket to buy some food for lunch and i will buy new netflix account to watch some new movies to get our old days back and maybe i will buy other remote controller for playstation to play some games .

best regards,

Adem

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You explained the key arrangements, provided directions from the station, and stated your arrival time with a suggestion for the evening. However, the development of these points is somewhat basic. For example, the instruction to 'ask people for adem house' is vague and lacks the clarity expected in a formal or semi-formal letter. While the task is fully covered, the ideas could be expanded with more specific detail to better meet the requirements of a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organized into short paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of your response. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and mechanical. You rely heavily on simple conjunctions like 'and' to connect ideas, and there is a lack of transition words to guide the reader through the text. The opening and closing are appropriate for a letter to a family member, but the overall flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive and lacks variety. You use basic terms such as 'go', 'buy', and 'fix', which are functional but do not demonstrate a wide range of vocabulary. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'behinde', 'dor', 'metters', and 'supermaket', which are noticeable. To improve, you should focus on using more precise verbs and descriptive adjectives, and ensure that you proofread your work to correct basic spelling mistakes that detract from the overall quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I hope you doing well' (missing auxiliary verb), 'you gonna come' (informal/incorrect contraction), and 'before i went back home' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of spaces before commas and periods. While your meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors indicates a need for more careful attention to subject-verb agreement, verb tenses, and standard punctuation rules.
