explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house

Student answer (Band 7.5)
Hello John,
I am excited to hear you are finally coming to our house tomorrow for your vacation. Unfortunately, I have a morning shift tomorrow, but I will meet you in the evening.
I have seen your train tickets, and your train will reach around 10 in the morning. From the railway station to our house, I have booked an advance ride for you. I will share the details about it. If the train schedule changes, just let me know. Otherwise, you can come by auto-rickshaw. They will charge around 30 dollars; do not pay more than that.
Once you reach the home, there will be a numeric passcode lock on the door. Just type the 4-digit house number; it will unlock. You can take a shower, and I have already prepared lunch for you. I will be back around 6 pm then I have booked a reservation in mexican restaurant. It is famous in our town. We will enjoy drinks and food.
Thank you for coming. I will meet you in the evening.
Kind regards,
James

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the key arrangements (the numeric passcode), provided instructions for the journey from the station, and detailed your evening plans. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a family member, and the ideas are well-developed and easy to follow. You have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively by providing all necessary information in a helpful and friendly manner.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the visit. You use clear transitions, such as 'Once you reach the home' and 'Otherwise', to guide the reader through the information. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of ideas is natural. While some cohesive devices are simple, they are used accurately and effectively to maintain the progression of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for this informal task, such as 'advance ride', 'numeric passcode', and 'reservation'. There are a few minor issues with collocation, such as 'reach the home' (should be 'reach home' or 'arrive at the house') and 'in mexican restaurant' (missing the article 'a'). However, these errors do not impede communication and the overall vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are error-free, and your control of punctuation is generally good. There are a few minor grammatical slips, such as 'I have booked a reservation in mexican restaurant' (needs an article) and 'I will be back around 6 pm then I have booked...' (a comma or conjunction is needed to join these clauses). These are minor errors that do not affect the clarity of your writing.
