Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Alana Morris,
I am writing to you to discuss your arrival tomorrow morning here at Lahore.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take time off from work and will not be able to welcome you to my home I have made a copy of my house keys and will leave them under the welcome mat that is right in front of the main gate. Please freshen up and have fruits I have stocked in the fridge.
Upon arriving the Lahore train station do not worry about getting to my house. Please exit the gate of the station there will be many taxis right outside at the left hand side. My residence is only 10 minutes away and I will WhatsApp you my pin location.
My last meeting will conclude at 7 pm and I will reach at my residence at around 7:30. I have already made dinner reservations at a famous restraunt that not only serves authentic lahori cuisine b

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt, providing clear instructions for the keys, directions from the station, and plans for the evening. However, the letter is incomplete; it cuts off abruptly at the end of the final paragraph ('...authentic lahori cuisine b'). This prevents the task from being fully realised and leaves the reader without a proper closing. To improve, ensure you complete your sentences and include a formal sign-off, such as 'Best regards' or 'See you soon', to maintain the appropriate tone for a letter to a family member.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, with each paragraph dedicated to one of the required bullet points. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Upon arriving' and 'Unfortunately', to link ideas. However, the abrupt ending significantly disrupts the flow and coherence of the final paragraph. Additionally, the transition between the greeting and the body could be smoother. To reach a higher band, ensure that your paragraphs are fully developed and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'conclude at 7 pm' and 'authentic lahori cuisine'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'restraunt' instead of 'restaurant', and some slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'pin location' (usually 'location pin' or 'shared location'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more varied descriptive language to make your writing sound more natural and engaging.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I will reach at my residence' (the verb 'reach' does not require the preposition 'at') and 'at the left hand side' (usually 'on the left-hand side'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some missing commas after introductory phrases. The most significant issue is the incomplete sentence at the end, which is a grammatical error by default. Focus on proofreading to catch these small prepositional and structural mistakes.
