Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the main purpose of the letter, but covers the bullet points only partially and in a limited way. While you mention that your friend Alex will meet Shine at the north subway station and hold the keys, the instructions regarding the journey contain some confusion, mixing up an airport and a train station. Furthermore, the plan for the evening is briefly touched upon with the restaurant reservation, but the ideas remain under-developed and lack sufficient detail. To move to a higher band, you would need to fully cover all parts of the task prompt with well-developed, clear explanations and extended ideas without any confusing details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the letter, separating the key handover, the travel directions, and the evening plans into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, repetitive, or inaccurate, such as starting multiple sentences with 'And' or 'I have already'. Referencing can also be unclear, as seen in the transition from discussing airport immigration to subway stations. To improve, you should ensure that ideas logically flow from one to the next and use a wider variety of cohesive ties more naturally and accurately to connect your sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that may cause some difficulty for the reader. There are several spelling mistakes, such as 'worrie', 'imigratation', 'airpot', 'resturante', and 'chines cousines', alongside inappropriate word choices like 'job working hours' instead of working hours or schedule. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider and more precise range of vocabulary, demonstrating better control of word choice, spelling, and collocations appropriate for everyday correspondence.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing shows a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at complex or longer sentences are often faulty, such as comma splices ('I have arrange one of my friend he will pick your from north subway station') and incorrect prepositions or verb forms ('Once your arrive at airport', 'at office on that time', 'give it to you'). Punctuation is also weak, with missing capitalisation and full stops. To reach the next level, you need to produce more error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over basic grammar, verb tenses, and sentence boundaries.
