Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all three parts of the prompt, covering the key arrangements, directions, and evening plans. However, some aspects are developed more fully than others. While the explanation regarding how to collect the keys from the neighbour is elaborated in great detail with specific descriptions of the door and mat, the directions from the train station are somewhat limited, merely suggesting an Uber and providing an address without contextual guidance about the route. Furthermore, the plan for the evening is stated briefly. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly for a relative, maintaining the correct register throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear chronological progression from arrival and key collection to evening activities. Ideas are generally grouped logically, and paragraphing is attempted to separate the key collection from the station directions. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, particularly with referencing and transitions between sentences, such as the abrupt shift when moving from the neighbour's description to the transport instructions. Additionally, some referencing elements like 'as i directed to' lack complete clarity. To reach a higher band, the use of cohesive devices would need to be smoother and more sophisticated throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday concepts and instructions. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary and descriptive phrases, such as 'burglar proof' and 'adjacent', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'yiu', 'uptairs', 'mosquitoe', and 'hve'. Furthermore, 'dropped' is used colloquially in place of 'left', and there are mechanical slips like 'tjere'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they reflect a limited and developing control over lexical precision and spelling accuracy at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'immediately you come upatsirs' and 'When i come back from work'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with capitalization of the pronoun 'i', lowercase letters at the start of sentences, and missing prepositions or awkward structural patterns like 'directed to to collect'. Punctuation is also inconsistent. While these errors rarely completely impede understanding, they occur with enough frequency to prevent the text from achieving a higher level of structural accuracy.
