Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ronak,
I'm so excited after hearing that you are coming to stay with me in this morning by train but I'm so sorry to inform you that I want available until the evening at home because of an emergency in my friend's family.
As I'm not available at home, I already gave the extra keys to my naighbour so you can collect the keys from them and get into the house.
Moreover, I already made your favrite chineesse food and put it in the fridger. After eating you can rest well or you can watch tv.
Furthermore, when you reached the train station you can take the taxi and tell them to drop you at Hindu Sabha temple gore road, in Brampton. From that temple you have to just walk for 2 minutes and you will be at my house.
In the evening ill be at home and i already decide that we are going to theater to see the new film of spiderman . as we both like to watch Hollywood movie . after that we will go to the restaurant for dinner and then we will come home and rest.
I hope you understand my emergency but I'm really sorry for that. See you in evening.
Best regards,
Sahil

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. You clearly explain how your relative can get the keys through your neighbour, provide specific and detailed directions from the train station to your house including the landmark, and state your arrival time along with a solid plan for the evening. Your position and tone are appropriate for a semi-formal or informal letter to a family member. The ideas are well extended and supported, with appropriate details provided for each point, ensuring the response fully satisfies the task requirements with clear information throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Paragraphs are used sufficiently to separate distinct points, such as the key arrangements, travel directions, and evening plans. You use a range of cohesive devices and transitional markers like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'After that' to link your ideas together. While referencing is generally clear, some of the cohesive devices feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and occasional awkward linking prevents the response from achieving a higher level of fluid integration, fully meeting the criteria for this band.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday information about travel, food, and social plans. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'emergency' and 'recommendations', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'naighbour', 'favrite', 'chineesse', and 'fridger'. These spelling mistakes and minor lexical inaccuracies do not impede overall communication, but they restrict your score because they highlight a lack of full control over less common items and standard spelling conventions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'As I'm not available at home, I already gave the extra keys...' and 'From that temple you have to just walk...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including tense inconsistencies like 'I want available' instead of 'won't be available', missing capitalisation for proper nouns and pronouns like 'ill' and 'i', and minor preposition or article slips. However, these errors rarely impede communication, and you maintain a reasonable handle on basic structures while attempting more complex sentence patterns.
