Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ali,
I am very excited to hear about your visit. I have planned multiple activities during your stay with me, we probably have a lot of fun together. But I am worried, I will not be able to pick you up from the train station; however we will meet in the evening.
I have some important business meeting in morning, which cannot be postponed. Because of that I will not be at home till to evening but I've done some attangements for you, to collect the keys and to enjoy your favirout lunch at home. My neighbour, Mr. Ahmed, will provide you the keys and the lunch is scheduled a from "Darul Laza" restaurant, which will be delivered at 2:00 p.m.
Once you will get out of train station, you will find the bus stop at you right side. Please take the bus number 5 to Ajman. You need to be active and drop at Ajman bus stop number 2. My building is just at a 2 minutes walk from the bus stop. You will find the high rise tower "Makkah Tower" in front of the bus stop. My flat number is 506 and my neighbor Mr. Ahmed is living in 507, just know his door, he will provide you the keys.
You can take rest for sometime, in evening I've booked a boat ride from Sharjah to Dubai, I hope will be enjoy the time.
See you soon.
Regards,
Shakoor.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three required points: you explain that Mr Ahmed will provide the keys, give a route using bus number 5 and Ajman bus stop 2, and say you will meet in the evening for a boat ride. These details make the letter useful and relevant. The arrangements and directions are fairly specific, but some information is unclear or not fully developed. For example, “the lunch is scheduled a from” does not clearly explain how the food will be delivered or how your relative can access it, and the route could clarify where to get off and how to identify the building. You also say you will be home in the evening, but do not give an approximate time. Clarifying these points would make the response more complete and dependable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with a greeting and introduction, then covers the key and lunch arrangements, directions, and evening plans. Paragraphing helps the reader locate each part of the message, and the sequence from arrival to evening is generally logical. However, some connections are mechanical or awkward, such as “Because of that” and “Once you will get out,” while the opening sentence joins two complete ideas with a comma. The directions also contain several details in one paragraph, making the route slightly harder to follow. Use clearer transitions and separate the travel steps into a simple sequence; ensure pronouns such as “his” and “you” have unmistakable references. This would make the progression smoother and cohesion less noticeable.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary for the practical purpose of the letter, including “postponed,” “delivered,” “train station,” and “boat ride.” These choices communicate the main arrangements, and the tone is generally friendly. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “attangements,” “favirout,” and “active” where you mean that the visitor should get off the bus. Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “enjoy your … lunch” in this context and “just know his door.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit the accuracy and flexibility of your vocabulary. Check spelling carefully and choose conventional phrases for directions and access arrangements.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “I have some important business meeting in morning, which cannot be postponed,” and use future forms to describe the visit. The main meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “Once you will get out” (use “Once you get out”), “till to evening,” and “I hope will be enjoy the time.” The opening also joins independent clauses with a comma, and “a 2 minutes walk” has an article and plural-form problem. These issues are noticeable but rarely prevent understanding. Practise accurate time clauses and complete sentence patterns, and proofread articles and verb forms while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
