explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house
say when you will be home and suggest what you could do together that evening
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Arsh,
I hope you are doing well. This letter is to let you know about the details of your arriving day at my place.
As you will be coming on Thursday and I'll not be home till 5pm. This is because my work starts early in the morning and I have to leave my place at 5 am. Upon your arrival, you can entre the house by locating the keys placed in the huge flower pot placed on the right side of the entrance.
Since you will be arriving by train, I'll send you my appartment address so you can book Uber after arriving at the train station. It usually takes 10-15 minutes to reach home via car from the railway station during peak hours. I would advise you to share your location to me once you steped out of the train so I can track your location to be on a safer side.
You will have time to refresh and feed yourself as there will be snacks and everything ready to eat in the fridge. Once I reach home I would like to take you for dinner in a famous restaurant. Later, we will attend a live concert on the streets of downtown.
Do let me know if you need some other information.
Can't wait to see you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you explain where the key is hidden, give a route from the station using a taxi app, and say when you will be home before suggesting dinner and a concert. The practical details, such as the flower pot’s position and the estimated journey time, make the arrangements useful. Your friendly tone also suits a letter to a relative. The travel guidance is somewhat less fully developed than the other points: an address and Uber are mentioned, but a landmark or clearer directions could help if the relative cannot use the app. The evening plan is engaging, though “a live concert on the streets of downtown” could be made more specific. Overall, the task is covered well, with a little room to develop details further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, practical sequence: arrival and access, travel from the station, then plans for the evening. Separate paragraphs help the reader locate each part of the message, and linking phrases such as “Since you will be arriving by train” and “Once I reach home” make the progression easy to follow. The opening and closing also establish an appropriate personal-letter format. Some connections could be smoother: the sentence beginning “As you will be coming on Thursday” is grammatically incomplete, which interrupts the transition into your work schedule. In addition, “placed” is repeated in the key instruction. Varying that wording and linking the travel details more naturally would make the cohesion less noticeable and more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the situation, including practical expressions such as “entrance,” “railway station,” “peak hours,” and “refresh.” These choices communicate the arrangements clearly, and the tone remains suitably warm. There are, however, some inaccurate or awkward word choices and collocations. “Entre the house” appears to be a spelling error for “enter,” while “your arriving day” is not a natural phrase; “the day you arrive” would be clearer. “Share your location to me” is also an inaccurate collocation, and “on a safer side” is less idiomatic than “to be on the safe side.” More precise, natural phrasing would strengthen the letter’s fluency and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, for example the sentence explaining your early work schedule and the conditional-style advice about sharing a location. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors are present. “As you will be coming on Thursday and I'll not be home till 5pm” is a dependent clause presented as a complete sentence; connect it to the explanation that follows. “I'll not be home” is less natural than “I won't be home,” and “once you steped out” needs the past participle “step” after “have” or the correct past form “stepped” in this construction. Review sentence boundaries and verb forms, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
