explain arrangements you have made for them to have keys and get into the house
tell your relative how to get from the train station to your house

Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Paul,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you that I won't be available to pick you from the train station due to some work emergencies, which needs my immidiate attention. Sorry for the inconvenience, however, I will provide you all necessary informations, so that you don't feel any difficulties.
First of all, My address is 104 Avenue Abbotsford, its a double-storey building where I live in ground floor and there is a family staying at the first floor, you can collect my house keys from there. As, I already mentioned about your arrival so it won't be any problem.
Next, my house is hardly 15 minutes away from the train station and situated in a very prime location, therefore it is very much accessible by public transport. After, coming out from the station there is a bus station just outside, you need to take Number 2 bus from Bay 11 and get down at Kingsway.
Furthermore, I am planning to take you out for a dinner at an Italian restuarant which is one of the popular restuarant in our city. I know you will definitely enjoy the food and the ambience there.
Please call me once you reach at the station. Wishing you a safe journey and see you in the evening.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover the three requested areas: you explain that keys can be collected from the family upstairs, give the address and a bus route, and suggest dinner at an Italian restaurant. However, the arrangements are not fully clear or developed. “There is a family staying at the first floor” does not explain exactly whom Paul should ask for or how the keys will be identified, and the route ends at Kingsway without saying how to reach the house from that stop. You also do not state when you will be home; “see you in the evening” is vague. These omissions leave parts of the task only partially addressed. Add precise instructions and a definite arrival time, then develop the evening plan with a practical detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: an opening explanation, separate paragraphs for the keys and route, and a closing paragraph about dinner. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Next,” and “Furthermore” help the reader follow the information, and the final request to call on arrival provides a natural closing. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. At times, however, the connectors feel mechanical, and punctuation after transitions is awkward, as in “As, I already mentioned” and “After, coming out.” The route and key details also need clearer links between steps. Use fewer formulaic transitions and connect instructions with precise sequencing and reference.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a sufficient range for a practical personal letter, including phrases such as “work emergencies,” “public transport,” “Bay 11,” and “ambience.” The meaning is generally understandable, and the tone is appropriately polite. There are, however, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation problems: “immidiate,” “informations,” and “restuarant” are inaccurate, while “pick you from” and “take you out for a dinner” are not natural combinations. “Prime location” is also less useful here than a direct description of the route. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling and countable nouns, and choose common, accurate phrases for giving directions and making plans.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a double-storey building where I live” and a reason clause explaining your absence. Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and errors rarely obstruct the reader. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, particularly in agreement, articles, prepositions, and punctuation. For example, “work emergencies, which needs” has a plural subject with a singular verb, and “I live in ground floor” needs an article and a different preposition. The sentence beginning “After, coming out” is also punctuated incorrectly. Review these patterns and proofread sentence boundaries and commas. More accurate control of these structures would make the letter smoother while retaining its range.
