Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Arsh,
hi, I hope you are doing well. I am very happy that you are coming to stay with me and excited to see you after a long time. Actually I am writing this letter to let you know that the day you coming, I will not be at home until late evening because I get extremly urgent meeting that I can not be postponed at any cost.
However, you don't worry about that as I already have done the arrangements for you. As a friend of mine living next to my house therfore I will handover the keys to her and you can get upon arrival.
Additionally,When you get off the train just right hand side of the station there is bus stop and you can easily take the 342 bus which directly come to our street. After getting off the bus just take the left turn and walk for 5 minutes straight and you will get the location of my apartment to your right.
I hope you understand everything and if you have any confusion you can ask me and I'll be there aroun 6pm and we will go for dinner and I already bought movie tickets for us. I am looking forward to enjoy that evening with you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter covers all three required points: you explain that your neighbour will hold the keys, give a bus-and-walking route from the station, and say you expect to be home around 6 p.m. with dinner and a film planned. The details make the arrangements practical, and the friendly opening and closing suit a letter to a relative. The key handover is clear, although it would be more complete to say exactly how your relative should contact or identify the neighbour. The directions are also useful but could be made more precise by naming the stop or street. The reason for your absence is relevant, though the urgent meeting is explained more fully than the evening plans. Overall, the task is addressed, with some details less developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible order: greeting and explanation, key arrangements, directions, then your return and plans. Paragraphing helps the reader locate each part, and links such as “However,” “Additionally,” and “After getting off the bus” guide the sequence. The letter is generally easy to follow, but some connections feel mechanical or are not punctuated clearly—for example, “Additionally,When” needs a space and a more natural transition. The long directions sentence would be easier to process if divided into shorter steps. The reference to “a friend of mine” and then “her” is understandable, though naming the neighbour or explaining how to find her would make the arrangement clearer. More flexible linking and cleaner sentence boundaries would strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the arrangements and maintain a warm, personal tone, including “urgent meeting,” “bus stop,” “take the left turn,” and “movie tickets.” However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the language less natural: “get upon arrival” is unclear, “get the location of my apartment” is an awkward way to describe finding it, and “looking forward to enjoy” uses an unsuitable phrase. There are also spelling errors such as “extremly” and “aroun.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for familiar, accurate expressions such as “collect the keys,” “find my apartment,” and “looking forward to seeing you.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter attempts a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and directions using “After getting off the bus.” The main message remains understandable, but there are some errors in verb forms, sentence construction, articles, and punctuation. For example, “the day you coming” needs a finite verb (“the day you are coming”), while “I get extremly urgent meeting” needs a suitable tense and article (“I have an extremely urgent meeting”). In “the 342 bus which directly come,” the verb should agree with “bus,” and “I am looking forward to enjoy” requires a gerund after “looking forward to.” The sentence beginning “Additionally” also needs clearer punctuation. More accurate control of these patterns, alongside the range already attempted, would improve the writing.
