Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Rohit,
How're you doing? After getting your letter , I was very excited to meet you after a long time, unfortunately ,I am unable to pick you up from train station, and I feel very sorry for this.
Due to my early morning shift, I am unable to pick you from train station, but I would assure you would not face any issue, that's why I put my main key under the main door carpet ,and prepare your favourite breakfast with coffee. In kitchen , I organise beverages on dining table, if you want ,please have it.Apart from it, I prepared your room next to right side of kitchen , take a rest and for shower just see the green and red signs: red for hot water and green for cold ,use as per your requirement.
from coming to train station, there are two option , taking bus transport or taking taxi, let me what mode would you prefer, if you want me to book taxi , I will book in advance for you , just write back your estimated departure time.
My shift will be finished around 3 p.m ,and reach home by 4 p.m .I planned everything how will we spent our evening, first we would go out for favourite coffee in Starbucks, then explore trinity mall , having indochinese food for dinner, then if you would like to watch movie , is it ok ? let me know if you have a another activity in your mind for evening.
See you soon.
With love.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you explain where the key is, give travel options from the station, and say when you expect to be home before suggesting evening activities. The details about breakfast, the guest room and shower also make the letter personal and relevant. The arrangements for getting to the house are the least complete part: offering a bus or taxi and asking which the guest prefers does not yet explain the route or give a clear way to reach the house independently. The evening plan is lively, but the sequence of coffee, the mall, dinner and a film is presented as a list rather than developed with practical details. More precise directions and a little more explanation of the plans would make the response more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall order: it begins with an apology, moves to arrangements at home, then discusses travel and evening plans, and closes appropriately. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these main stages, and linking phrases such as “Apart from it” and “then” show attempts to connect ideas. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “from coming to train station,” and the travel paragraph shifts from giving directions to asking about transport without a clear progression. Several details are crowded into long sentences, while commas and spacing sometimes interrupt the flow. Use separate, focused sentences for the key arrangements, route and evening plan, and connect them with straightforward transitions to make the organisation more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main arrangements and make the letter personal, including “early morning shift,” “estimated departure time” and “explore.” There is also some variety in the activities and household details. However, a number of word choices and collocations are noticeably inaccurate or unnatural, such as “main key,” “beverages on dining table,” “two option,” and “indochinese food.” These choices sometimes make the reader pause to interpret the intended meaning. Some expressions are also repeated, including “if you want.” Aim for more natural phrases such as “spare key,” “drinks on the dining table,” and “two options,” and check spelling and capitalisation of names and cuisine. This would make the vocabulary more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example explaining the reason for your absence with “Due to my early morning shift” and describing plans with conditional phrases such as “if you would like to watch a movie.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make relationships between ideas unclear. Examples include “I am unable to pick you from train station,” “let me what mode would you prefer,” and “how will we spent our evening.” There are also problems with articles, plurals, verb forms and punctuation, as in “a another activity” and the comma-heavy opening paragraph. Review question word order in indirect questions, use “spend” after “will,” and proofread sentence boundaries and articles. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the letter.
