Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three parts of the task: you explain where the key is and how to disable the alarm, give a route from the station, and say when you will return and what you could do together. The evening plans—tea, shopping, dinner and a film—are relevant and give the letter a friendly purpose. This meets the task well, with some detail already provided. To make the response more fully developed, clarify the directions, since “ask him to leave the golden street house number 32” may not reliably guide Peter, and explain the key arrangement more carefully so it is clear how he can find and use it. The plans are listed rather than expanded, and the invitation could be phrased more naturally and directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information follows a generally sensible order: greeting and apology, arrival arrangements, directions, evening plans, and a closing request. Time markers such as “when you get” and “After that” help the reader follow the sequence. However, the letter is presented as one continuous block, so the changes from travel instructions to evening activities are not clearly signposted. Some links are mechanical, particularly the repeated sequence of “After that” and “Then,” while the final request to leave a message is not clearly connected to the earlier arrival details. Use separate paragraphs for arrival, directions, and plans, and vary the transitions. Clearer referencing—for example, specifying where the key is and what “its number” refers to—would also improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate the main arrangements, including “security alarm,” “train station,” “snacks,” and “mutual friends.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “get together party.” However, several spelling errors and unnatural word combinations reduce precision and sometimes make the reader pause: “schedual,” “rickhaw,” “massage,” and “arrange dinner” are examples. Some choices are also unclear, such as “leave the golden street house number 32.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise transport and direction vocabulary would help Peter understand the route, while a natural phrase such as “I’ve booked a table” would make the dinner arrangement clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The letter communicates its main meaning, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Most sentences use simple patterns, and attempts to combine ideas sometimes produce faulty structures: “Hope are you okay” and “when you get the train station take…” need more accurate word order and sentence framing. Verb forms and agreement also need attention in “i’ve arrange dinner” and “Then we are both watching movie later night.” Articles and prepositions are often missing, as in “go to mall” and “at 5 o’clock then we take.” Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, with several sentences beginning in lowercase and run-on transitions between plans. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add a few controlled complex forms using “when,” “after,” and “because.”
