Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sarfaraz,

i hope this mail finds you well. sending this mail to inform you that, due to some coincidence, I am not able to be present in morning .but have made some arrangements for your for less efforts.

When you arrive at the railway station take a cab to sydney .it will cost only 60$. In the garden there is one bucket full of roses inside this i will put the key of the house. by using them you can unlock the door.

There are 4 rooms on the ground floor. The 2nd room is yours. Have some refresement, and if you feel hungry i will also make some meals for you that will be in the fridge. by the 6 pm i will be back and we will have some gossips together and after that we will go to the movie and dinner .

Inform me when you reach the station. And i am really sorry this.See you in the evening.

your friend,

anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three requested points: you explain where the key will be, give a route from the station, and say you expect to return at 6 pm and suggest a film and dinner. The practical details about the spare room and food in the fridge also help your relative settle in. However, the directions are unclear: “take a cab to sydney” does not explain how to reach your house, and the key arrangement involving a bucket of roses is difficult to picture. The evening plan is relevant but could be more specific. Clarifying the route and explaining exactly where the key is kept would make the arrangements more complete and reliable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter follows a generally sensible order: arrival and key arrangements, information about the house, then your return and evening plans. Paragraph breaks help separate these topics, and the closing is appropriate for a friend. However, some links between ideas are abrupt or unclear. For example, “In the garden there is one bucket full of roses inside this i will put the key” is difficult to follow, while “Have some refresement” shifts suddenly from the room description to food. Several sentences also run together or have inconsistent spacing and punctuation, which interrupts the flow. Use clearer transitions and divide the practical instructions into complete, well-punctuated sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate the main arrangements, including “railway station,” “unlock the door,” “fridge,” and “movie and dinner.” The friendly tone suits a personal letter. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “due to some coincidence,” “for less efforts,” “gossips together,” and “make some meals.” “Take a cab to sydney” is also too vague to function as a clear direction. Spelling errors such as “refresement” and inconsistent capitalization reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range for giving directions and making arrangements, and check spelling and natural word combinations before finishing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, for example, “if you feel hungry i will also make some meals for you that will be in the fridge.” The intended meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems remain. The opening has an incomplete sentence fragment (“sending this mail to inform you”), and “by the 6 pm i will be back” has an unnecessary article and inconsistent capitalization. In “There are 4 rooms… The 2nd room is yours,” the sentence forms are clear, but the letter also contains run-on punctuation, such as “morning .but.” Practise complete sentence construction, articles, capitalization, and punctuation while retaining your attempts at longer sentences.
