Student answer (Band 6.0)

Hi Jonh,

I got your leter last week and I am really glad that you are planning to visit and accomodate with me for a week from next Monday by train. I know that you will reach my town on Monday morning but unfortunately , I have an appoinment with my dentist on that day and i am unbale to pick you up from the station. I am really sorry for it. I will be back at home around 5 pm.

Don't worry. I will keep my house key in key locker at the front door. You can come at my house and bring the key by using 2456 password from the locker. I will keep breakfast ready for you on that morning. So, I hope you will like it and take a little nap after breakfast. My house located close to the bus stop. It will be convenient for you to take bus number 10 from train station to my house.

I will try to come home as early as possible. but still it will take around 5 pm. I made plan for evening. We will go out for dinner and enjoy musical concert inthe city hall. I am egarly waiting for you.

lots of love

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a friendly, appropriate tone for a relative. You explain that a key will be left in a locker and give the access code, provide a bus route from the station, and say you expect to be home around 5 p.m. You also suggest dinner and a concert, so the reader has a clear idea of the evening. The arrangements are relevant, but some details could be clearer and more fully developed: for example, specify where the bus stop is at the station and how your relative should find your house after getting off. The key instructions could also explain how to use the locker. These details would make the response more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The information is arranged in a generally logical order: you introduce the visit, explain the key and travel arrangements, then describe your return and evening plans. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and expressions such as “Don’t worry” and “So” guide the reader through the message. However, some links feel mechanical or unclear. “So, I hope you will like it” does not clearly connect the breakfast arrangement to the next idea, and the repeated mention of arriving home around 5 p.m. could be combined. The final paragraph also begins with a lowercase “but,” which interrupts the flow. Use clearer links between related details and avoid repeating information to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the practical arrangements and maintain a warm personal tone, including “key locker,” “train station,” “take a nap,” and “musical concert.” The meaning is generally understandable, but spelling errors and several unnatural word combinations reduce precision. For example, “accomodate with me” is not the natural way to describe staying at your home, and “bring the key by using” makes the locker instruction awkward. There are also misspellings such as “leter,” “appoinment,” and “egarly.” Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for travel, accommodation, and making plans. More precise phrasing would make the letter sound more fluent and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes a mix of simple sentences and some more complex forms, such as “I know that you will reach my town … but unfortunately…” and “I will try to come home as early as possible.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. Examples include “My house located close to the bus stop,” which needs a verb (“is located”), and “You can come at my house,” where the preposition should be “to.” The sentence “I made plan for evening” also needs an article and a more complete grammatical form. Capitalisation is inconsistent in “i” and after the full stop before “but.” Review articles, prepositions, and sentence punctuation while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
