Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sonia,
How are you doing?. Are you excited to stay with me?.
I am so excited to see you!! I want to let you know I have a very important appointment in the morning, so want be home before 6pm.
I feel bad that I am not able to pick you up from the station, but I have booked a uber for you in the morning. Uber driver will be holding your name on a board to let you know that he is waiting for you.
Once you get home, there will be a key under the door mat and just grab the key and get into the house. I am sharing a house with one of my friends, so do not get scared if you see her. My room is on the right side by the kitchen.
I will be home by 6 pm and then I will take you out for dinner. I have also booked a movie tickets after the dinner. I can't wait to see you.
With love,
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter covers all three requested points and maintains an appropriate, friendly tone for a relative. You explain that a taxi will be arranged and describe how Sonia can enter the house, then give your expected arrival time and suggest dinner and a film. However, the route from the station is not really explained: booking an Uber and identifying its driver is a transport arrangement, but does not tell her how to reach your home or what to do if the ride cannot be found. The key instructions are also brief, and the shared-house detail could be clearer about how to locate your room. Develop these practical details so each part is equally complete and useful to the reader.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: arrival arrangements, access to the house, and plans for the evening. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these topics, and the closing is suitable for a personal letter. The progression is generally easy to follow, with links such as “Once you get home” and “then” guiding the reader through events. To make the organisation more polished, connect the station-to-house instructions more explicitly to the arrival paragraph and avoid abrupt shifts, such as moving from the key under the mat to the housemate and then to your room. A clearer sequence of steps and more precise references would add the flexibility and smoothness expected at a stronger level.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for communicating the main arrangements, and phrases such as “pick you up,” “under the door mat,” and “take you out for dinner” suit an informal letter. However, the range is fairly basic and some expressions are inaccurate or awkward, which limits precision. “Booked a uber” is not the natural form, while “holding your name on a board” is an unclear way to describe how to identify the driver. “Booked a movie tickets” also has an incorrect word combination. Choose more precise travel and arrival language, and check articles and collocations when using familiar phrases. This would make the letter sound more fluent and natural without changing its friendly tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter uses mostly straightforward sentences, with some variation through clauses such as “Once you get home” and “so do not get scared if you see her.” Meaning remains clear, and several sentences are correctly formed. There are, however, some errors in punctuation, verb forms, and articles. For example, “How are you doing?.” and “Are you excited to stay with me?.” have unnecessary full stops, and “so want be home” is missing “I” and “to.” The phrases “a uber” and “a movie tickets” also show article and number agreement problems. Review these patterns and try a wider range of accurately controlled sentence structures to improve grammatical flexibility.
