Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear Aman,
I am writing this letter to welcoming to you for coming to home . I will see you in evening.
Hope you are did well in your exams. I know you are expecting me in the railway station in the morning to recieve you. But unfortunately im going early morning to Jalandhar for office meeting. The breakfast will be ready for you and you and please take it from kitchen. Take the keys of the house from the neibour Ramesh, I informed him already that you are coming in the morning.
Furthermore, when you will recieve railway station Hoshiarpur, there is stand for autos outside. You wiill get an auto rikshaw there. Tell him that you want to go to Narayan nagar. My house number is 515 and it is situated in Street no 5 of Narayan nagar. The distance of my house to the railway station is only 2Km.
I will be in the house untill 3 pm. We will go to Barista club in the evening. There is a musical event.
Yours cousin,
Nitin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover the main practical points: Ramesh will provide the keys, the guest can take breakfast from the kitchen, and you give the station, neighbourhood, house number and street. You also suggest going to a musical event together. However, some details are unclear or incomplete. “I will be in the house untill 3 pm” conflicts with the opening explanation that you will not be home until evening, so the relative cannot tell when to expect you. The route is also quite brief: you mention taking an auto-rickshaw but do not explain how to identify the house once in the neighbourhood. Clarify your arrival time and make the directions and evening plan more specific to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable structure, moving from the greeting and your absence to the keys, directions and evening plans. Paragraph breaks help separate these topics, and words such as “But” and “Furthermore” signal transitions. However, the progression is not always smooth: the opening says you will see Aman in the evening, while the later statement that you will be home until 3 pm creates confusion. Some connections are also mechanical, and the breakfast instruction interrupts the explanation about collecting the keys. Group related arrangements together and use clearer links between them. A more consistent sequence—arrival and access, route, then your return and plans—would make the message easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate the basic arrangements, including “keys,” “kitchen,” “railway station,” “auto rickshaw” and “musical event.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the letter sound unnatural. For example, “welcoming to you for coming to home” does not express the intended welcome naturally, and “when you will recieve railway station” is difficult to interpret. Spelling errors such as “recieve,” “neibour” and “wiill” are noticeable. Choose familiar but accurate phrases, and check spelling carefully; more precise expressions for directions and arrival arrangements would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Most sentences use simple structures, and the reader can understand the main arrangements, but attempts at longer constructions are often faulty. Examples include “I am writing this letter to welcoming,” “Hope you are did well,” and “when you will recieve railway station Hoshiarpur.” These show problems with verb forms and sentence construction. There are also errors in articles and prepositions, as in “coming to home,” while “I will be in the house untill 3 pm” does not clearly express the intended time you will return. Punctuation and spacing are inconsistent. Practise accurate basic clauses first, then build longer sentences using correct forms such as “I’m writing to welcome you” and “When you arrive at Hoshiarpur station.”
