Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear sister,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you that i will not be at home till the evening on your arrival as i am working in a restaurant and also i have a fixed schedule. i can not come early that day in the evening because restaurants are so busy in the evening time.
I have also handover the keys to one of my friend who lives in my neighbour. She will come to you to give you the keys. You can take keys from her and enter in the house. My friend will serve you some refreshments to you. You both can gossip about your journey until my arrival at home.
I have alreay managed everything how you can get into the house. I have booked a ride for you so you can come to the house by car after your drop of from the railway station. I have done the payment for your ride from station to the house.
I will be at home at 8pm. I am coming to the house with lots of gifts and with your favourite dishes. we will do dinner together. I have also arranged some activities that we will do together like playing chess, wathing movies and so on. we will have a unforgettable night this day.
I can not wait to see you as soon as poosible.
Your loving sister,
parneet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points and maintains a clear, friendly purpose. You explain that your neighbour will provide the keys, describe a pre-booked car from the station, and say you will be home at 8 p.m. The evening plans—dinner, chess and a film—also make the message personal and relevant. These details give the reader practical information, although the route arrangement is quite general: you do not explain where the car will meet your sister or how she will identify it. The key handover is also slightly unclear because you first say your friend will come to give the keys, then suggest she will already be at the house. Clarifying these arrangements would make the response more complete and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: your absence, access to the house, travel from the station, and plans for the evening. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these topics, and phrases such as “I will be at home at 8pm” make the timeline clear. The letter also has an appropriate greeting and sign-off. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated explanations that arrangements have been made. The transition from the friend giving the keys to the booked ride could be smoother, and “I have also handover…” followed by “I have already managed everything…” repeats the same point. More precise referencing and varied transitions would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate the arrangements and make the letter warm, including “refreshments,” “favourite dishes,” and “activities.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which keeps the message from being consistently precise. For example, “lives in my neighbour” does not clearly express where your friend lives, while “drop of from the railway station” and “unforgettable night this day” are awkward formulations. There are also spelling errors such as “alreay,” “wathing,” and “poosible,” alongside repeated basic words such as “house” and “together.” Build accuracy with common travel and hospitality phrases, and proofread spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer sentences, such as “I am writing this letter to inform you that…” and “I have also arranged some activities that we will do together…”. The intended meaning is generally understandable, but errors occur across verb forms, sentence construction, articles, and punctuation. For instance, “I have also handover the keys” uses an incorrect verb form, and “My friend will serve you some refreshments to you” has an unnecessary repeated object. Several sentences begin with lowercase “i” or “we,” and the opening paragraph joins ideas with punctuation that does not clearly separate them. Aim for accurate basic sentence patterns first, then use longer clauses with careful checking of verb forms and sentence boundaries.
