Student answer (Band 6.5)

Although throughout the world people are aware about the concept of recycling, they do not pay attention towards it. Some people believe that recyling the rubbish is a progressive step towards save earth or environment. While others oppose to it and ignore the concept of recycling. I am strongly in favour of recycling. Let us discuss in the upcoming paragraphs about why this is the case or what need to be changed.

To commence with, there are plethora of reasons for not recyling the litter. First and foremost, as people are unaware about the consequences of producing waste continuously, they do not consider it an important part. To clarify, even if there is any road show regarding recycling or any other form of awareness program, people just ignore and laugh at such programme. For instance, once in my school there was a show on the correct collection of rubbish. After watching the show, students consider it just the waste of time.

Furthermore, there are numerous solutions to this problem. Government should hire some special forces to make people understand the value of recycling. To elaborate, If people somehow get the correct guidelines, they will start following recyling hopefully. To site an example, Municipal corporation of my city, succeed to make 40 percent people aware regarding recycling.

Additionally, to attract the people towards recyling government should announce some special rewards. To substantiate, gifts or rewards are the things with which people are attracted to. Because people find pleasure in receiving gifts, government can make use of such behaviour for positive results of recycling. To illustrate, during art and craft period interns cut a lot of paper. When teacher announce reward for making the lab clean, students stop cutting the paper and stop spreading it here and there.

To encapsulate, it can be concluded that when people will become aware about the necessity of recycling, they will definately make their step forward for recycling.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion to hire 'special forces' to enforce recycling is an underdeveloped and slightly unrealistic idea. The examples provided, such as the school show and the municipal corporation, are relevant but could be explained with more depth to fully support the arguments. The response covers the requirements, but the depth of analysis is limited, which prevents it from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'To encapsulate', though some are used in a slightly mechanical or repetitive way. The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the transition between the problem and the solution could be smoother. Referencing is mostly clear, but there are instances where the connection between sentences feels a bit disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph regarding the school example.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'consequences', 'municipal corporation', and 'substantiate'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'recyling' (repeatedly), 'definately', and 'site' (used instead of 'cite'). These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To reach a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate more precise control over word choice and ensure accurate spelling of key vocabulary related to the topic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'people are unaware about' (should be 'of'), 'what need to be changed' (should be 'needs'), and 'succeed to make' (should be 'succeeded in making'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors indicates a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms, keeping the score in the 6.0 range.
