Student answer (Band 6.5)

In many developing nations, it is generally seen that people do not recycle their garbage properly. I strongly believe that onus is not only on denizens , government is equally responsible for this irresponsible behaviour of people. This trend mainly depends on few factors like lack of awareness, improper sanitation, poverty, etcetera. I will suggest some solutions to ameliorate this issue in my upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, the reasons why people do not recycle their litter according to the government's guidelines. First and foremost, they think that higher authorities generate revenues from taxes, hence disposing the garbage is their responsibility. Regime has advance machinery, trained staff so they think they can handle everything by themselves. Secondly, some countries have poor infrastructure, people have to face problems while doing recycling or dumping rubbish, due to the lack of recycling bins. Finally, residents are not aware about the bad consequences of not doing garbage at their designated places, as throwing litter in surroundings can raise insects like bees, mosquitoes, which cause health problems and bad odour.

However, there are various solutions to handle this issue of not throwing rubbish at their assigned locations. It should be combine approach by both government and citizens. Higher authorities should organise campaigns in every cities to aware the people about the importance of proper recycling and bad affects of not doing so. Moreover, government should increase the number of recycling bins by written instructions on them, that which bin is for garden, which is for garbage, and for recycle. Responsible residents have to throw their litter according to instructions and colour of the bins to maintain the beauty the surroundings because they are who spend most of the time their.

To conclude, to make the nature attractive and lively, both higher authorities and people have to work together by doing their best to recycle as much as they could. Government can spread knowledge about the imperativeness of doing proper disposing of garbage.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding 'poverty' mentioned in the introduction is not explored in the body paragraphs. The points about government responsibility and lack of infrastructure are relevant but could be supported with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. Overall, the task is addressed, but the depth of discussion is somewhat superficial.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Secondly', and 'However', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'It should be combine approach'. Referencing is generally clear, though there are occasional lapses in flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion, even if the internal development of those ideas is somewhat basic.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'onus', 'denizens', 'ameliorate', and 'imperativeness'. However, some word choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as 'doing garbage', 'bad affects' (should be 'effects'), and 'to aware the people'. These errors occasionally distract the reader but do not impede overall communication. A wider range of precise collocations would be needed to move into the higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the government', 'in every cities'), verb forms ('It should be combine approach'), and word order. Some sentences are slightly fragmented or lack necessary prepositions. While the writer attempts complex structures, they are not always error-free. The errors are noticeable but rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message, which is consistent with the criteria for a band 6.
