Student answer (Band 7.0)
In today's modern world, recycling has become increasingly important because it helps protect the environment and reduce waste. However, in many countries, people still do nor recycle as much as the could. In this essay, I shall discuss the main reasons for this problem and suggest some effective solutions with relevant example.
To begin with, one of the prominent reasons is that many people are not fully aware of the importance of recycling. That is to say, they do not understand how recycling helps conserve natural resources and reduce pollution. As a result, they simply throw everything into the same rubbish bin without thinking the consequences. Another reasons is the lack of proper recycling facilities. In some areas, there are few recycling bins or collection services. When recycling requires extra time and effort, many individuals choose the easier option of disposing of all rubbish together. For instance, many major cities such as Mumbai and Delhi in India, people live their have less time to recycle because of their busy life schedule and less education about recycling, as a result they throw rubbish on a street or simple garbage bins.
Nevertheless, several measures can encourage more people to recycle. First of all, all governments should organize public awareness campaigns through television, social media and schools. These campaigns can educate people about the environmental and economic benefits of recycling. Moreover, local authorities should provide enough recycling bins in public places and residential areas so the recycling becomes simple and convenient. In addition, governments can introduce rewards for households that recycle well or impose small fines on those who fails to throw recycling rules. For example, in the United Kingdom, government introduce strict rules for recycling process and put many different colour bins on streets and near house.
In conclusion, the main reasons why people do not recycle enough are a lack of awareness and insufficient recycling facilities. However, these problems can be solved by educating the public, improving recycling infrastructure and encouraging responsible behaviour through rewards and regulations. If these steps, recycling rates are likely to increase significantly, leading to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. The introduction sets a clear scope, and the body paragraphs provide logical explanations. The examples provided, such as the mention of Mumbai and Delhi, and the UK, help to support the arguments. However, some points could be developed further to reach a higher band; for instance, the link between education and recycling behavior could be more deeply explored. Overall, the response is well-structured and fully addresses the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Nevertheless', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the solutions. While some transitions are slightly mechanical, the overall flow is smooth and easy to follow. The referencing is generally clear, and the structure supports the development of the argument throughout the essay.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language such as 'conserve natural resources', 'infrastructure', and 'public awareness campaigns'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'fails to throw recycling rules' (should be 'fails to follow') and 'people live their' (should be 'people living there'). While the range is adequate for the task, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'people still do nor recycle' (typo), 'as the could' (should be 'as they could'), and 'Another reasons is' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, the sentence 'If these steps, recycling rates are likely to increase' is missing a verb. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear, and the mistakes do not significantly impede communication. A greater focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and word forms would improve the score.
