Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The essay addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of public awareness and insufficient government infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The second body paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, which prevents a full exploration of the proposed solutions. While the introduction establishes a clear purpose, the abrupt ending limits the overall task response. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points are fully developed and that the essay reaches a natural conclusion, rather than ending mid-thought.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'To explain', and 'Another reason is'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is incomplete, which disrupts the logical flow of the argument. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the mechanical nature of some transitions and the lack of a concluding paragraph make the structure feel unfinished. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, completed structure that contributes to the overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate ideas clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'landfill waste' and 'natural resources'. However, there are frequent spelling errors such as 'cicties', 'diffrent', 'theow', and 'envuribnmnetal'. Additionally, there are word-choice issues, such as 'use recycle process' instead of 'recycle their waste' and 'recycling becomes different' instead of 'difficult'. Improving accuracy in spelling and collocation will significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement ('proportion rates of recycling is', 'government also not properly implementing') and article usage. Some sentences are awkward, such as 'people get familiar with the recycling concepts'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of errors in basic grammar and punctuation is noticeable. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for common errors like verb tense consistency and pluralization, and practice constructing more complex sentences with greater accuracy.
