Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is undeniable fact that, in numerous Territories the rate of recycling a rubbish is far below its potential. The major cause behind it is a lack of awareness and recycling products. However, there are few measures can be taken to mitigate this issue. This essay will intend to elaborate major causes behind it with possible solutions.
To begin with, the main reason behind this is people are not aware about recycling and its benefits on our environment. Moreover, they are unaware about detrimental impact on ecosystem such as climate changes, pollution and depletion of nature. Although many individual wants to recycle more garbage, a shortage of recycling bins and an unavailability of its products hinder recycling process. For instance, in my city Etobicoke, there are recycling machines are installed but it is very far from city area. As a result, people do not prefers to travel that long which may again restrict recycling.
In contrast, there are a few solutions to irradiate these issues. Firstly, by running awareness campaign can motivate people to do more recycling as by setting examples of advantages of recycling on environment. To exemplify, a month ago, Humber University aspirants of science performed an act on public locations on annual day of city. As a consequence, so many folks join them and took an oath to keep environment clean and lively. Secondly, higher authorities should install recycling bins on every street of city.
In conclusion, undoubtedly lack of recycling is major issues as it has very harmful effect on nature. Nevertheless, by spreading awareness and motivating people for doing recycling can eradicate these problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of infrastructure and the need for public awareness campaigns. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the example regarding the recycling machines in Etobicoke is a good start but could be expanded to explain how this specifically impacts recycling habits. The position is clear throughout, but the essay would benefit from more depth in the analysis of the solutions to reach a higher band. Overall, the task is adequately addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast', though some are used mechanically or slightly inaccurately (e.g., 'In contrast' is used to introduce solutions, which is not a contrast to the previous paragraph). Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the solutions, which helps the reader follow the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'detrimental', 'depletion', and 'mitigate'. However, there are several word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'irradiate these issues' (likely meant 'eradicate') and 'recycling products' (when referring to infrastructure). Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range is somewhat limited, preventing a higher score. Improving precision in word choice would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the recycling process'), subject-verb agreement ('many individual wants'), and sentence construction ('there are few measures can be taken'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These errors occur throughout the text and, while they do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. More attention to basic grammatical rules and proofreading is recommended.
