Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the contemporary era, the life is moving at an unprecedented pace, which makes individuals schedule quite hectic. However, a certain section of society believes that the recycling of garbage and waste materials are not enough in several countries. There are myriad of reasons behind this rising scenario which are explicated in the subsequent sections along with some measures to curb it.

Indeed, firstly, people do not have work-life balance. In fact, without time-management, they do have have enough time for recycling and even reusing the products. For instance, employees having corporate jobs work from morning to evening which leads to exhaustion leaving no time and energy for waste management. As a result, this issue is ignored by most of the society. Apart from this, another reason can be due to laziness and carelessness. That is to say, these days people are more money-oriented and only think about luxury lifestyle without thinking about these serious problems. Hence, people do not even consider about other things such as recycling due to their fast-paced lifestyle.

Nevertheless, there are ample of measures that can be taken to tackle this critical problem. The prominent one is that higher authorities should take initiative to promote three R's - recycle, reduce and reuse in the nation. To add, by imposing stringent rules, natives would get aware about this significant matter. A case to this illustration is in parts of India, farmers use bio-gas plant, where all the garbage is buried under ground to generate gas to use for cooking and other purpose which is promoted by Government. Besides this, it is the responsibility of every person to protect the environment by doing enough recycling of the rubbish. To be precise, a campaign by social workers could create awareness by providing insights regarding the benefits of recycling which could bring immense positive outcomes. Consequently, making every native realise their duties and responsibilities for their motherland.

To recapitulate, although there are numerous reasons for people by for not recycling enough of their wastage and garbage, I believe the given solutions can work wonder in this domain.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the impact of a fast-paced lifestyle and the role of government initiatives. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding 'laziness' is a bit superficial, and the example of bio-gas plants in India, while interesting, is not directly linked to the core issue of household recycling habits. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear, logical reasoning that directly answers the 'why' and 'how' components of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two main questions. Cohesive devices such as 'Indeed', 'Apart from this', 'Nevertheless', and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'this rising scenario' or 'this critical problem', which could be more precisely linked to the preceding ideas. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items like 'unprecedented pace', 'explicated', and 'stringent rules'. However, there are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'the life is moving', 'do have have' (repetition), 'natives would get aware', and 'work wonder'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the expression. Expanding the range of natural collocations and refining the use of academic vocabulary would help elevate the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex forms, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('recycling... are not enough'), missing articles ('the life', 'by Government'), and awkward phrasing ('people by for not recycling'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure occasionally feels clunky due to these persistent errors. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly subject-verb agreement and article usage, as these errors occur frequently enough to distract from the complexity of the ideas presented.
