Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, people need to recycled their waster to protect the environment. In many developing countries it is a main concern that people do not recycle their waste as much as they could. The main reason behind this is awareness. It can be change by taking some suitable steps jointly by the government and local people.

One of the foremost reasons behind recycling of rubbish as much as possible is that people are not aware. Many people do not know how it impact our environment; how much adverse consequences it have on our health. If we do not decompose the waste then it increases greenhouse gases, depletion in ozone layer. Furthermore, it create air, water and land pollution, which adversely effects the health. For example, people can have problem in breathing and get effected by many other diseases.

It can be controlled, if the government and general public took an initiative to protect the environment and take an effective steps to recycle the rubbish as much they can. The government needs to organize a campaigns and seminars in which they can educate people about the consequences of not recycling the rubbish. The government should promote the businesses and provide them some benefits like subsidies or deductions on tax rate, who use the recyclable products and taking steps in decomposing the rubbish as much as they could. General public also need to use product which are easy to recycle rather than using the products which have adverse effect on environment. General public need to take steps in recycling their rubbish as much as they can.

In conclusion, this is a serious issue that people need to recycle the water as much as they can and this problem can be solved only by taking an appropriate steps both by the government and the indigenous people.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of awareness and the need for government intervention through subsidies. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the third paragraph where the call for action is restated multiple times. While the position is clear, the depth of analysis could be improved by providing more specific examples or exploring the economic or logistical barriers to recycling beyond just 'awareness'. Overall, it meets the requirements of the task but remains at a general level of discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore', 'For example', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'this is a serious issue' in the conclusion refers back to a broad concept rather than a specific antecedent). Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some instances of word-choice errors, such as 'recycled their waster' (should be 'recycle their waste') and 'decomposing the rubbish' (recycling is more accurate than decomposing). The range is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', or 'steps'. To improve, the student should aim to use more precise collocations and a wider variety of topic-specific vocabulary related to environmental sustainability.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('it create air', 'it have on our health') and incorrect verb forms ('people need to recycled'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction. While the meaning is rarely obscured, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic tense consistency and pluralization would significantly improve the accuracy.
