Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The argument regarding health concerns is a specific angle, but it is not fully supported by logical reasoning, and the example cited (Cambridge University research on plastic cups) appears to be a generalisation or a misunderstanding of the topic. The solutions provided are relevant but remain somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations and ensure that your examples are accurate and directly support your main points rather than relying on potentially inaccurate claims.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'For the reason of increase the risk of health issues'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to create a more natural progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'Individuals of majority of the nations' instead of 'The majority of people' and 'rectifying the issue' which is slightly formal but used in a context where 'addressing' would be more natural. Some phrases are repetitive, such as 'recycling the products' and 'their own garbage'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more topic-specific collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'society do not recycle', 'people of nowadays does not'), article usage (e.g., 'the Cambridge university'), and prepositional errors (e.g., 'overcome to this problem'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and article usage would be highly beneficial.
