Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention that people view recycling as 'extra work' and suggest government-led seminars and television advertisements, these ideas could be expanded with more depth. For instance, the explanation of why people believe factories refine garbage is a good point, but it lacks a clear link to how this misconception could be effectively countered beyond just 'awareness'. The example regarding Columbia is relevant but slightly underdeveloped in its connection to the broader argument. To improve, ensure each point is fully explored with clear reasoning and specific, illustrative details.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. For example, the phrase 'It is common' is used twice in the second paragraph, and the transition between sentences can feel abrupt. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the connection between sentences could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') would help improve the flow. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the pronoun usage in the final paragraph, which affects the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. You rely on basic terms like 'garbage', 'trash', and 'recycling' repeatedly. There are also some awkward collocations and word-choice errors, such as 'the ignoring of the recycling' (instead of 'the neglect of recycling') and 'to aware the people' (instead of 'to raise awareness among people'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form and context. Avoid repeating the same terms throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('many people avoids'), article usage ('the recycling is the rising concern'), and incorrect word forms ('to aware the people'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly verb forms and the correct use of articles. Proofreading for these specific types of errors before finishing would be highly beneficial.
