Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, there has been an ongoing debate on the way of recycling rubbish in different societies. In many parts of the world, individuals do not recycle their rubbish as much they could. I believe there are many reasons behind this such as, lack of awareness, busy schedules and laziness. This problem could be solved if individuals and authorities might do their duties on time.

On the one side, busy professionals often neglect to recycle their garbage .This is because they are too busy in their work-life balance. Therefore, they unintentionally throw the recycle garbage in same bins. Moreover, there are many societies where people are not much aware of recycling the trash. As a result, they frequently doing same mistakes by throwing all rubbish without recycling the things. For example, in some countries there are poverty areas in which they do not have different recycle bins. So they throw all the trash in same bins which creates more problem in societies.

However, there are several solutions of this problem. One of the primary solution is awareness campaigns which could be done in different societies where people who have lack of knowledge related to recycling might get chance to get knowledgeable. In addition, government should be implemented strict rules and regulations towards people who are deliberately not recycling their trash. So, that individuals give proper attention to recycling to save the environment. For instance, in Canada, when public do not throw garbage in allotted bins, the trash trucks did not take their garbage and write note on it as a warning. In this way, people get aware about their mistakes and try to recycle their trash.

In conclusion, although there are number of reasons behind not recycling the garbage. But, government and societies can solved these issues by implemented some laws and social events for opening the public eye.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding 'poverty areas' lacks depth and could be better connected to the broader argument about infrastructure. While the ideas are relevant, they are occasionally repetitive, such as the mention of 'busy schedules' and 'lack of awareness'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced examples and ensure that each point is fully explored rather than just stated.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one side', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical. There are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by awkward phrasing, such as the transition in the final paragraph starting with 'But'. The referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem from the solution.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'allotted bins' and 'awareness campaigns'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'doing same mistakes' instead of 'making the same mistakes' and 'poverty areas' instead of 'impoverished areas'. The range is sufficient for the task, but the lack of precision and occasional repetition of basic terms prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and articles (e.g., 'government should be implemented' instead of 'should implement', 'the recycle garbage' instead of 'recyclable garbage', and 'can solved' instead of 'can solve'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing spaces after periods. These errors are noticeable but do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive versus active voice.
