Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 201 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you identify reasons (busy lifestyles, internet addiction) and solutions (advertising, government intervention), the ideas are under-developed and lack depth. The introduction is somewhat informal and does not clearly outline the essay's scope. To improve, you must expand on your points with specific examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the prompt's two parts.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is often disrupted by awkward phrasing and limited use of cohesive devices. Transitions like 'Furthermore' and 'However' are used, but they do not always connect ideas smoothly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between 'workforce' and recycling is not well explained. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly relates to the prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'raising' instead of 'rising', 'repeat' instead of 'reuse', and 'adductive' instead of 'addicted'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of your message. To reach a higher band, you should work on learning collocations and using more precise vocabulary related to environmental issues, such as 'sustainability', 'waste management', or 'environmental degradation'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('everyone are busy'), incorrect verb forms ('not do recycle'), and punctuation errors. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs. Practicing the use of relative clauses and conditional sentences will also help you demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
