Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation regarding 'busy schedules' is a relevant point, but the connection to why this specifically prevents recycling is slightly unclear. The solutions provided, such as donating items and holding competitions, are relevant but could be expanded with more concrete detail to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7. The position is clear throughout, but the overall depth of the argument is limited by repetitive phrasing and a lack of nuanced analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Additionally', 'The first and foremost step', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In spite of garbage their rubbish' and 'due to some factors people do not showing their interest'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences occasionally feels disjointed due to grammatical errors. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the use of cohesive devices lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'state-of-the-art', 'contemporary', and 'mesmerized'. However, there are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'give preference to recycle' (should be 'give preference to recycling'), 'this menace can be altered' (menace is an odd choice here), and 'offspring' (which is used incorrectly to refer to children in a general sense). These errors occasionally impede the precision of the message. A wider range of vocabulary used with more accuracy would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people do not showing'), incorrect preposition use ('on the account of that'), and awkward phrasing ('due to a few reasons why people throw their rubbish'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic and complex structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading is necessary.
