Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, in a few countries rubbish recycling has become a major concern because people do not recycle their garbage as much as they could. This is happening because people often throw boxes and electric items in the garbage bin due to less facilities provided by the city corporations. I think in order to improve this concerns government should provide additional facilities and organize campaigns. The main reason for not recycling items such as boxes and electric gadgets is lack facilities provided to people in area where they live. Due to lack of awareness about consequences of disposing them in garbage force people to skip thinking about it. Therefore, they end up throwing all items in regular garbage bins which can actually be recycled and help to save an environment. For example, in some cities such as Mumbai and Chennai authorities only provide one garbage bin rather than introducing green bin for recyclable products. Hence, citizens often avoid think about recycle for some products and damage an environment indirectly. In order to promote an awareness about the products which can be actually recycled, government should organize a campaign which provides benefits of recycling electric and plastic items. In addition, providing them with a different garbage bins called environmental-friendly can also increase the ration of rubbish recycling. Furthermore, rewards should be given to people who try to differentiate recycle products and sent it to recycling companies. Overall, due to limited facilities provided to people, they often forget about consequences of not recycling that. However, spreading an awareness about the benefits of recycling boxes and plastic products may force people to think about it twice before throwing them in regular bins.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of infrastructure and the need for government-led campaigns. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion to 'provide rewards' is mentioned but not explained in terms of how it would practically function. The position is clear throughout, but the response would benefit from more depth in the examples provided to reach a higher band. The ideas are generally well-focused on the prompt, though some points, like the mention of 'electric items', could be more clearly linked to the broader issue of recycling infrastructure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Therefore', 'In addition', and 'Furthermore', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'avoid think about recycle'. The referencing is generally clear, but the progression of ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the structure is functional and supports the development of the argument, meeting the requirements for a band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'consequences' and 'differentiate', but there are also persistent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'less facilities' (should be 'fewer facilities'), 'ration of rubbish' (should be 'rate of recycling'), and 'damage an environment' (should be 'damage the environment'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a limited range of precise vocabulary, which is characteristic of a band 6 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the environment', 'a campaign') and verb forms ('avoid think about', 'sent it to'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'due to lack of awareness about consequences of disposing them in garbage force people'. These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended message. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy significantly.
