Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding why people do not recycle is brief and relies on generalizations about 'busy' citizens. The solutions provided, such as government intervention and fines, are relevant but could be expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. The position is clear, but the overall depth of the argument remains at a Band 6 level as some points are under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the reasons to the solutions. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the first hand', 'Moreover', and 'Secondly', though some are used incorrectly (e.g., 'On the first hand' is non-standard; 'On the one hand' would be correct). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the main ideas. While the flow is generally logical, the mechanical use of some linking phrases and occasional awkward transitions prevent a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choice, such as 'categorizing the garbages' (sorting waste) and 'less Government interference' (lack of government intervention). The term 'garbages' is used as a countable noun, which is incorrect in this context. While the meaning is clear throughout, the range of vocabulary is limited, and the student struggles with collocations and formal register.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'people not aware about the consequences' (missing verb 'are'), 'still not have a proper system' (missing auxiliary 'do'), and 'seventy percentage' (should be 'seventy percent'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are inconsistent. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to be noticeable and suggest a lack of control over complex structures.
