Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the link between 'illiteracy' and 'recycling' is mentioned but not clearly explained or supported with logical reasoning. The examples provided (listing several countries) are general rather than specific illustrations of the problem. While the position is clear, the arguments lack depth, and the connection between the proposed solutions (such as 'hefty charges') and the actual recycling process could be more explicitly articulated to fully satisfy the requirements for a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To recapitulate'. However, some of these transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural in context. Additionally, there are instances where the referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'such instances' in the third paragraph, which does not clearly refer back to a specific antecedent. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the problem from the solution.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'maintaining amelioration' is not a standard collocation, and 'trash recovery' is an imprecise term for recycling. The student attempts to use more sophisticated vocabulary like 'proliferated' and 'prerequisite', but these are sometimes used incorrectly or in contexts where they do not fit naturally. While the meaning is generally clear, the lack of precision in word choice limits the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'government should imposed'), article usage (e.g., 'in the world'), and pluralization errors (e.g., 'protocol's'). The sentence 'In contemporary, one of the pressing issues...' is grammatically incorrect at the start. While the meaning is usually understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band for grammatical accuracy.
