Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is observed that many people are not following best practices in order to recycle garbage around the globe. Main cause is the lack of education and awareness. Both the reasons and solutions are discussed further in following paragraphs.

First of all, there is very less amount of literate individuals across the country who has a knowledge about this. Because of this rest of all are not following certain rules and regulation for recycling the rubbish. In addition to this, some of them have mindset that one person will not impact negatively on the recycling. This laziness of the people creates more trouble. Apart from that, government is not running the campaign for cleaning awareness and standards that also affect on recycling. As well as, most of the restaurants are also not recycling their garbage and they are just throwing all together at the end of the day.

In order to get rid of this, education board have to include this basic knowledge into the curriculum when children are starting their studies. Moreover, cleaning slogan hordings should be installed at the crowded places around the city. They can also use social media platform to increase awareness about this. In addition, they can also increase multiple spots for trash bins across the town. Government can also arrange different type of competition such as drawing competition, elocution activity etc. This will increase more curiosity and attention for young people.

Overall, it is found that lack of awareness, education are the reasons for not recycling the rubbish. If education board and government are the responsible entity who can resolve this issue.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of education and the need for government-led campaigns. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the point about restaurants is mentioned but not fully explored, and the solutions are listed rather than explained in depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific examples or logical consequences. The position is clear throughout, but the overall development lacks the depth required for a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. There is a logical progression from the causes to the solutions. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'As well as,' at the start of a sentence, or 'In order to get rid of this,' which is not the most precise way to introduce solutions. Referencing is generally clear, but some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'curriculum,' 'campaign,' and 'recycling.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward word choice or collocation, such as 'cleaning slogan hordings' (instead of 'public awareness posters') and 'rest of all' (instead of 'the rest of the population'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The errors in word choice do not impede communication, but they do limit the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('education board have to', 'government are the responsible entity') and article usage ('the lack of education', 'the government'). Additionally, some phrasing is non-standard, such as 'there is very less amount of literate individuals'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on basic grammatical rules and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
