Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for low recycling rates and suggesting solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of 'materialistic behaviour' is mentioned but not fully explored. Additionally, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall task coverage. While the position is clear, the lack of depth in supporting arguments and the failure to meet the length constraint prevent a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', though some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the sentence 'These problem can be mitigate', where the plural/singular agreement is inconsistent. Overall, the structure is functional, but the flow between sentences could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'rubbish it' (used as a verb), 'garbage it', and 'perents'. The student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'detrimental effects' and 'materialistic behaviour', but the overall range is limited. Frequent errors in word formation and collocation occasionally hinder the natural flow of the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include 'it can commonly seen' (passive voice error), 'users buy product' (missing article), 'people do to have time' (typo), and 'how things made' (missing auxiliary verb). These errors are persistent and sometimes distract the reader, although they do not completely impede communication. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and article usage is necessary to improve the accuracy of the writing.
