Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 77 words long. Consequently, the ideas are severely underdeveloped. While the essay attempts to address the two parts of the prompt—reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions—it does not provide sufficient detail or examples to support these points. The introduction is present but lacks a clear, well-developed thesis. Because the response is significantly under-length, it cannot be considered a full attempt at the task, which severely limits the score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay is structured into an introduction and a very brief body paragraph. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the lack of content. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical way, such as 'To commence with', but the overall flow is disjointed due to the brevity of the text. Paragraphing is attempted, but the lack of development makes it difficult to assess the logical organization of the argument effectively. The response lacks the necessary length to demonstrate a range of cohesive devices or a coherent structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive. There are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'dispose off' instead of 'dispose of' and 'this consequences' instead of 'these consequences'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, which is expected for an IELTS Task 2 response. The student relies on simple, everyday language, and there is no evidence of the ability to use less common lexical items or precise collocations to convey meaning effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains several grammatical errors that impact the clarity of the writing. For example, 'due to lack of knowledge and awareness leads to this consequences' is a grammatically incorrect sentence structure. There is also a lack of variety in sentence structures, with the writing relying on simple, somewhat fragmented sentences. Punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary spaces before commas, are also present. The limited length makes it difficult to demonstrate a wide range of grammatical structures or consistent accuracy.
