Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, covering education, infrastructure, and policy enforcement. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion of 'fines' is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of its practical implementation or potential challenges. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. The structure is logical, and the response stays focused on the topic throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To start with', 'Coming to the solutions', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are repetitive or slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed due to grammatical errors. The progression of ideas is logical, moving from the problem to the solution, which provides a coherent flow. To improve, the student should focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences within paragraphs are more tightly connected.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'waste material', 'recycling plants', and 'sorting'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'significient', 'knwoledge', 'diffrent', 'bines', 'garbedge', and 'knoeldge'. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede overall communication. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. Incorporating more precise synonyms and ensuring accurate spelling would significantly enhance the lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including issues with articles ('the garbedge', 'a countries'), subject-verb agreement, and word order ('people not know importance'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'recycling the waste material is quiet hard but with and awareness'. Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. The student should focus on proofreading for common errors like missing articles and verb tense consistency.
