Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of time and inadequate infrastructure. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of government responsibility could be more detailed with specific examples of how infrastructure fails. The position is clear throughout, and the response maintains a consistent focus on the topic. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more nuanced reasoning or concrete, real-world examples rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'In action, state should supply bins'. Additionally, there are minor issues with referencing and flow, such as the phrase 'since of different reasons' in the conclusion, which disrupts the logical progression. Improving the variety and naturalness of linking words would enhance the overall coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'infrastructure', 'judicious', and 'environmental protection'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'most pivotal concern', 'garbage it', and 'get encourage'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise control over word choice. Expanding the range of vocabulary to include more sophisticated collocations and idiomatic expressions would help improve the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the recycle or non-recycle things'), subject-verb agreement ('government systems may also responsible'), and preposition usage ('since of different reasons'). Some sentences are slightly clunky, such as 'public authority ought to be made it easier'. While the errors do not prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be highly beneficial.
