Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation regarding people being 'busy' or 'depending on their mood' is repetitive and lacks depth. While the solutions provided (government fines, education) are relevant, they are presented in a list-like fashion rather than being fully explored. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or elaborate on the consequences of these solutions to demonstrate a more nuanced understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. Phrases like 'To Explicate it' and 'To Elaborate it' are used in a way that feels unnatural. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the connection between the conclusion and the previous points is weak. Improving the flow between sentences using a wider variety of linking words would help the essay read more smoothly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There is significant repetition of basic terms like 'recycle', 'trash', and 'government'. Some word choices are awkward, such as 'more better' (a double comparative) and 'through garbage' (confusing 'through' with 'throw'). There are also several spelling errors, such as 'Thesedays' and 'there self'. To improve, you should focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring correct word forms, which will help you convey your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people just depends', 'they doesn't want') and incorrect use of articles and prepositions. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often marred by errors, such as 'if any garbage truck driver find recycle things... they will get notice'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly subject-verb agreement and the correct use of plural/singular forms, before attempting more complex structures.
