Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of consumerism and the role of education. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding 'boasting wealth' is a bit simplistic, and the connection between the 'wabi-sabi' concept and modern recycling is not fully explained or linked clearly to the prompt's focus on rubbish management. While the position is clear, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all requirements but lacks the depth of analysis expected at higher levels.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Commencing with,' 'As far as solutions are concerned,' and 'In a nutshell,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. For example, the phrase 'The primary reason to this trend is boasting wealth' is slightly awkward in its connection. Additionally, the final sentence is grammatically incomplete and confusing, which disrupts the flow of the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'escalation,' 'strata,' and 'lure,' which show a decent range. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'boasting wealth' (instead of 'conspicuous consumption' or 'displaying wealth') and 'restores broken pieces' (should be 'restore'). The phrase 'lost it's charm' contains a common error with the possessive 'its'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, it lacks the precision and natural collocation required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'reason to this trend' (should be 'reason for'), 'pressurize them to buy' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'by opting these methods' (should be 'adopting'). The final sentence is particularly problematic: 'recycling has lost it's charm because of but by opting the above mentioned solution , the lost beauty in recycling could be restored.' This sentence is fragmented and contains punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered consistently accurate.
