Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, people starts to understand the importance of recycling. Due to scarcity in resources, the things which used to be cheap are now getting more expensive. Some people cannot afford those products and starts to damage our natural resouces. In some nations, individuals don’t care much more about recycling and there are various reasons behind it.

In various regions, individuals are engaging more in their professions and they don’t have enough time to arrange recycling bins and they just dump those goods in garbage. The another reason behind it is the system. Some countries doesn’t have enough infrastructure to arrange the facilities for recycling for their public and they ended up throwing it in streets and water which leads to more pollution. Some folks are not aware about how this thing works, and what they can do to recycle their stuff.

There are many initiatives could be taken to control this practice. Government can charge the fines to people who are damaging environment and ignoring reusing of their goods. Another initiative could be the apps on electronic devices which makes public learn about how reprocesses works, how can they reuse it, and many more. Some more transportation methods should be introduced to collect the salvaging products from urban and rural areas.

In conclusion, it is our personal responsibility to take care about our surroundings and make sure that everything should he reused. Some folks believe that it is also about social status that not to reuse any stuff. Everything comes from ecosystem and this kind of practice leads to inflation and damage to our own well being as well.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. The ideas are relevant, such as the lack of time, infrastructure, and public awareness. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the suggestion of 'apps' is mentioned but not explained in terms of how it would practically increase recycling rates. The conclusion introduces a new, slightly tangential point about 'social status' which is not explored earlier in the essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with clear explanations or examples rather than listing multiple ideas briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a logical flow from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'The another reason behind it is...' and 'Some more transportation methods...'. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'it' in 'how this thing works' and 'how can they reuse it', which lacks a specific antecedent. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'scarcity', 'infrastructure', and 'initiatives'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations, such as 'damaging environment' (missing article), 'reprocesses works', and 'salvaging products' (when 'recyclable materials' would be more accurate). The range is sufficient to communicate, but the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people starts', 'Some countries doesn’t'), missing articles ('charge the fines', 'damaging environment'), and awkward phrasing ('everything should he reused'). These errors are noticeable and occur regularly, though they do not significantly impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, as these are consistent patterns of error in your writing.
