Student answer (Band 6.0)

This is an ongoing debate for many years about recycling. It is quite common these days that people just dispose their garbage rather than recycle. This could be due to lack of knowledge and non-strict laws, but this issue can be addressed by taking effective actions by individuals as well as authorities.

This is happening because due to the lack of awareness about its side effects on the coming future and new generation. In addition, individuals are involved in their own daily duties, which leave them with no time to recycle their household waste and people are not willing to pay attention to separate their kitchen waste and plastic waste because it needs more time to do such task.

This issue can be resolved with the assistance of government which can enable people to encourage them to recycle their garbage. Firstly, authorities could provide an extra bin for recycling items. This could help the society to work on this quite easily. Secondly, educational institutions should organize lectures on how to protect the environment by investing small efforts, also teachers can provide them a list of the items which goes to the recycling bins. These actions could be beneficial to create pollution free society and environment.

In conclusion, there is no doubt that recycling waste issue is due to improper knowledge among individuals and this could be solved by taking a few actions such as separate bins for all type of waste and appropriate guidance from teachers can help to generate a valuable basic knowledge.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for low recycling rates and potential solutions. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding why people do not recycle—citing 'lack of time' and 'daily duties'—is a valid point but lacks depth or specific examples. The solutions provided, such as 'extra bins' and 'educational lectures,' are relevant but could be expanded upon to demonstrate a more thorough exploration of the topic. The position is clear throughout, but the overall development remains at a basic level, preventing it from reaching a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. There is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In addition,' 'Firstly,' 'Secondly,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive. For example, the phrase 'This is happening because due to' is grammatically awkward and redundant. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between sentences could be improved to sound more natural and sophisticated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There is some attempt to use topic-specific language like 'household waste,' 'recycling items,' and 'pollution free society.' However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'dispose their garbage' (should be 'dispose of') and 'generate a valuable basic knowledge.' The vocabulary is functional but lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'This is an ongoing debate for many years' (should be 'has been'), 'dispose their garbage' (missing 'of'), and 'items which goes' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. A greater variety of error-free complex structures would be needed to demonstrate stronger control.
