Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons why people do not recycle as much as they could—such as laziness and inconvenience—and suggesting solutions like government awareness campaigns and financial incentives. The position is clear throughout the essay. Ideas are extended with examples, such as referencing a University of Waterloo survey and the deposit scheme in Australia. However, some arguments tend to over-generalize, and the development of ideas could be deeper to reach higher band levels. Overall, the task is properly fulfilled with relevant ideas and clear support, aligning well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes and solutions. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'To commence with the first point', 'Additionally', and 'To conclude'. However, some of the referencing and linking mechanisms feel somewhat mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the use of 'Thus, buy doing these efforts' contains a typo and demonstrates a slightly clumsy transitional link. Progression is generally evident, but the cohesion can occasionally feel forced, which places this response comfortably in the Band 6.0 category.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using topic-specific terms such as 'garbage', 'recycling materials', 'dispose', and 'awareness'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are often accompanied by inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'masses are lazy' or 'buy doing these efforts'. Furthermore, spelling and word-form errors occur, including 'seperate', 'governement', 'ralleys', and 'awaring'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5.5 because the control over less common items is inconsistent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include tense and aspect issues like 'They just intentionally putting their garbage' (missing auxiliary verb) and awkward phrasing such as 'when they will put' instead of 'when they put'. Punctuation errors are also present, such as unnecessary spaces before commas. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning and communication remains intact, the frequency of non-systematic errors prevents the response from achieving a higher band score.
